More Than Volunteers: Exploring God’s Call to Serve

Charles S. Rigby

We wonder why 100 million Americans are unchurched. Statistics tell us that an outsider has difficulty breaking into the religious culture of the church as it is today. The church is thrashing around trying to appease the seeker while the seeker is trying to find what the identity of the church actually is. Many times our message has become compromisingly muddy and the monumental times in which we live has made our understanding of prevailing truth increasingly difficult. Where have we failed? We can never reach the unreached unless we can define in specific terms who we are and what we are called to do about it. If “O how they loved one another” is our calling card then how do we integrate that love into our being and project it through our God- created personalities that He has made us to be? Volunteerism in the church today is not enough. This book emphasizes the need to empower our church members as ones who are called to serve, as well as providing helpful tools and materials for implementation of this paradigm shift.
